s The Three Chiefs: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Good Chief. He protects his men and gives them the benefit of the doubt. He sees them as innocents until proven guilty. He lets charges be filed against them for alleged infractions, but he provides them opportunities and leeway to properly prepare to defend themselves. He treats them in a manner befitting officers and gentlemen. He understands them for he previously investigated the source of their discontent. He never succumbs to the caprices of the Senior Chief no matter the pressure for he sees him as one of the Garci Generals he investigated and is not quite convinced of his absolute cleanliness. He is the good father that protects his children and defends them even if their grandfather accused them of doing something wrong and inappropriate. He is the protector of the Marines. He is Vice Admiral Mateo Dimayuga.
The Bad Chief. He never gives a damn nor howls a faint of protest when his men are rounded up, put in restricted custodies and later detained in hurriedly prepared prison cells even before charges are formally filed against them. He does not even bother if his men are ill-treated in detention centers and paraded like criminals before the court hearings even formally begin. He readily kowtows to the orders of the Senior Chief even if these are detrimental to his men. He is the bad father who severely punishes his children without trying to understand their sentiments. He is the bad father who abuses his children, then sells them to the highest bidder in order that he may earn the favor of the Senior Chief. He is the scourge of the Scout Rangers. He is Lt. Gen. Romeo Tolentino.
The Ugly Chief. He was once the Chief bodyguard of the Commander-in-Chief. He shamelessly cried before the media and the nation when his Commander announced her decision not to run in May 2004 Elections, and he shamelessly cooperated with Garci in rigging the votes to ensure his Commander's victory for which he was awarded as Army Chief and now Senior Chief. Knowing that the Bad Chief will always be his faithful running dog, he immediately ordered the arrest and imprisonment of the Scout Rangers to impress upon the Commander that he is on top of the situation. But he could not impose the same on the Good Chief who knows a lot of ugliness about him. Unable to order the arrest of the Marines, he brings his case to the media and there he tries to outmaneuver the Good Chief. He orders the Bad Chief to finish within the next two weeks the construction of additional detention cells in Tanay where the Marines will be immediately imprisoned if the Good Chief refuses to detain his men in his own camps. Like the Bad Chief, the Ugly Chief is afraid of the Scout Rangers for nothing breaks their brotherhood so he incarcerated them before they could even think of something that may put the Ugly Chief in an ugly situation. The Ugly Chief is also afraid of the Marines for they are a tightly knit group, especially if the Good Chief is hell-bent on protecting them, so he will use all his powers to arrest and imprison the Marines before they can finish thinking and planning and before they can move against the Ugly Chief and his Commander. The people are still hopeful the highly-regarded Marines will soon finally move. From among the three Chiefs, the Ugly Chief really wears an ugly face. The Ugly Chief is the unconfirmed Senior Chief. He is Lt. Gen. Hermogenes Esperon.

s Special Ops: Magdalo Navy vs. Magdalo Army then, Sct. Rangers vs. Marines now
The Magdalo split was engineered by the ISAFP.
It was a special project intentionally conceptualized and implemented by one
of ISAFP’s Colonel officers. It started by the introduction of religious
preachers. From among the detainees who exhibited positive response,
moderates have been chosen from the defiant ones. Incidentally,
the moderates come from the Amy, while the hardliners come from the Navy and
Marines. Inter-branch of service
rivalry was used to ignite antagonism. The group of Army Captains Gerry Gambala and Miles Maestrecampo were then given some privileges and leeways. They were even allowed to go malling and to pursue higher studies. On the other hand, rules and regulations were strictly enforced on the group of Navy Lieutenant Senior Grades Antonio Trillanes and James Layug.
It was the moderate camp of Gambala and Maestrocampo, the Navy faction, that spearheaded the signing of manifesto apologizing and professing allegiance to GMA. Trillanes’ group, the Army faction, went along with it hoping that they could still be united at the end. Nothing, however, changed after the incident and the differences in treatment continued.
This situation created antagonism between both camps, so much so that such antagonism later on turned violent the detention custodians were forced to eventually separate both camps in two different detention facilities.
The same “special operations” is again being implemented between the Scout Rangers and the Marines.
Scout Ranger Officers accused of being involved in the February plot were immediately detained even though charges have not yet been filed against them. They are kept in solitary confinements. The detention facilities do not meet the minimum living condition, and food is scarce.
The Marine Officers, who were also accused of being involved, on the other hand, are spared of detention with only Col. Ariel Querubin being restricted within his quarters and Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda being just under the custody of Navy Chief Vice Admiral Mateo Mayuga.
The detained Scout Ranger Officers have heard of the fortunate status of their Marine comrades. Some detention guards deliberately tell stories of the Marines’ lucky condition.
The media, unaware of these tactics and psyops, feed on the intrigues by quoting reliable sources and insiders, highlighting the differences and lopsided treatments which the unsuspecting wives, relatives and lawyers readily, with hatred and disgust, tell the stories to their beloved detainees.
If this “special operations” would not be exposed and explained to the detained officers, to their wives, relatives and lawyers, and to the media, the Scout Rangers would slowly, but surely, hate their comrade Marine Officers for enjoying these privileges and leniency.
And when the Scout Rangers, their relatives, lawyers and comrades-in-arms begin calling for equal treatment, their brother Marines would also begin hating them until antagonism will lord over all of them.
Double Standard? Nadah, this is special ops! Divide et impera.

s Special Honors: Salute to a Soldier’s Wife
Just recently a detained soldier’s wife tried taking her very own life to end her pain.
The tragic story started the day when officers of the Scout Rangers were arrested for allegedly being part of those who plotted to bring down Gloria Arroyo’s farce government. Families of these soldiers were not allowed to visit nor even given any information on the state of their love ones. Worse, they received reports of physical and mental tortures reminiscent of the Marcos dictatorship of those who refused to be coerced to become collaborators. Junior officers identified as hardliners were thrown to solitary confinements lasting months to breaks their spirits. The tremendous pain it brought to the families of those involved was beyond words and it took its toll.
A soldier’s wife went thru all of this…
She is a typical wife who adores her soldier husband, taking dual roles as mother and father while he is away defending the freedom of this country. She knows her husband has always echoed the very principle the Academy has inculcated in him – Courage, Integrity, and Loyalty. She also knows by heart the Honor Code which her husband learned and practiced in the Academy - a cadet, and a soldier eventually, does not cheat, does not steal, does not lie nor tolerate any of these three. Years of academy life made her husband what he is now. Armed with what he has learned, her husband performed his duty with all his heart. To him, being a soldier is the noblest profession of all, a defender of freedom, and a protector of the people. No one can be prouder of him than she, his wife. She believes him as man of decency and of principles, a man worthy of being called a true Filipino Soldier.
But the event took its turn and now, her husband is being accused of undermining the government and was detained for his alleged involvement. They portrayed him as a power hungry bastard, a conspirator that would do anything to gain what he wants. After months of being separated from him and the constant barrage of propaganda by the Arroyo regime, her mental state was affected while endlessly trying to understand on why a soldier, such as her husband, is being persecuted. To her, these were all lies concocted by Arroyo’s paid dogs. But no matter how she tried resisting the lies being spread by the government, one could only take so much.
Day in and day out, all she think and could do is asked why her husband who stands on what he believe is right is now languishing in jail while the likes of officers such as Gen. Jovito Palparan who has been perceived to kill civilians and terrorize the people without impunity is being praised into high heavens by no less than the President. Why Arroyo’s agents for cheating like the dreaded Garci triplets Generals Esperon, Tolentino and Habacon are bestowed with the highest ranks and positions in the Armed Service. Why on Earth, does a soldier like her husband and the likes of Lim, Flordeliza, Malabanjot, Guinolbay, Querubin, Trillanes, Faeldon and the rest of the detained soldiers who gallantly fought for this country and who have seen what is wrong and articulated the same are being punished and called traitors?
To her, her husband does not deserved to be incarcerated. It should be the corrupt Gloria Arroyo and his philandering husband Jose Pidal and their dogs should be thrown into jail and rot to eternity for the crimes they committed against the Filipino People.
Being helpless made her desperate, and being desperate made her think of taking her own life. It is her only way of showing her act of protest to this farce government. This is her gallant stand of defiance to the lies being perpetrated by those who persecute her husband. She would rather die than believe in the lies of Gloria Arroyo and her Garci Generals.
Fortunately she survived, but will suffer a lifelong effect. We could only admire the courage this lady has exemplified. Only a few could muster enough courage to show such act of defiance. Only this soldier’s wife has the guts to stand on what her husband believes in.
For this indeed, we salute her as a true soldier’s wife. |
